"While I am a lobbying veteran, the workshop and book provided me with a fresh perspective on advocacy. Mr. Guyer's clear structure and methodology for an effective lobbying campaign added to my own effectiveness with the legislature contributing to me being ranked one of the five best lobbyists in the state of Florida."

How to Successfully Lobby Your State Legislature

Advocacy Training for the Competitive Edge.

Whether veteran or novice, federal or state lobbyist, we can teach you to plan and implement a better state legislative lobbying campaign. Our full-day seminar begins by explaining the constitutional, judicial and historical foundations of lobbying. Then we discuss the similarities and differences between federal and state lobbying and between legislative and executive agency advocacy. Next, we turn our attention to defining your legislative problem(s), assessing and increasing your political strength, developing a lobbying infrastructure and campaign, and drafting a bill more likely to pass in the state legislature. You will identify and apply the motivators affecting lawmakers' decisions to support or oppose you or your issue; and, you will learn how to use these motivators to effect a more favorable outcome.

Do you need a contract lobbyist? Hiring or not hiring one is a major decision. We give guidelines to help you determine when you need one, how to find the right lobbyist for your issue, establish a reasonable fee, and work most effectively with him or her.

You will learn tips to overcome the "tricks" often associated with legislative negotiation. You will discover strategies for gaining support and weakening opposition from special interest groups. You will practice what you have learned by negotiating with other seminar participants in a legislative activity designed to sharpen your negotiating skills.
